Planet Ubuntu: Jason Gerard DeRose: Winning

Planet Ubuntu: Jason Gerard DeRose: Winning

My hope is that Novacut can help put artists in the drivers seat and keep them there, and it’s the keeping them there part that has led me to think a lot about long term risk reduction. Artists need a predictable platform they can count on for both creation and distribution, which is where Ubuntu comes in.

Ubuntu earned this position because we think it truly is the best platform, strategically speaking, for artists. At various points we thought OSX should be the primary platform for the editor. But we came back to Ubuntu after talking to more artists and some friends in the industry. Point is, when I decided Ubuntu would be the premiere Novacut platform, I was truly trying to do the best thing for artists, not wearing my “Jason, Ubuntu fanboy” hat.

So for Novacut to help artists win, Ubuntu needs to win… and I’m highly motivated to help make sure that happens. Granted, Ubuntu may not need any help winning and Novacut might at best play a minuscule part anyway, but if there’s one lesson that’s clear from winners, it’s that you should never underestimate how hard you’ll have to work to win.
